Who We Are
The Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority (LCWA) is a public agency dedicated to the long-term restoration and preservation of the Los Cerritos Wetlands—a rare and ecologically rich coastal habitat located at the border of Los Angeles and Orange counties. Formed in 2006 through a partnership (JPA) between the State Coastal Conservancy, Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, and the cities of Long Beach and Seal Beach, the LCWA is committed to transforming degraded land into thriving wetlands that support biodiversity, enhance climate resilience, and offer meaningful public access.
Our Mission
To provide for a comprehensive program of acquisition, protection, conservation, restoration, maintenance and operation and environmental enhancement of the Los Cerritos Wetlands area consistent with the goals of flood protection, habitat protection and restoration, and improved water supply, water quality, groundwater recharge, and water conservation.
What We Do
Our Impact
The Authority works to acquire, manage, and restore the Los Cerritos Wetlands with the goal of creating a healthy, self-sustaining ecosystem. By reconnecting fragmented habitats, improving water quality, and planning for sea level rise, the LCWA supports both environmental and community well-being.
